Acțiunea filmului îl găsește pe Rocky în culmea gloriei, figura sa apărând pe copertele celor mai prestigioase reviste de sport din întreaga Americă. Mai mult decât atât, primăria orașului său a ridicat o statuie în onoarea sa, la inaugurarea căreia campionul participă și își anunță retragerea din viața sportivă.
